Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique, developed by Mikao Usui.
Born on August 15th 1865 in a small Japanese village located in central Japan called Taniai. Usui was interested in many areas of life such as: the Shinto religion, Buddhism and sacred texts in different languages to name just a few. At the beginning of the 1920’s Usui withdrew to Mount Kurama where he undertook a prolonged period of meditation and fasting. During this time Usui received a kind of enlightenment which is known as “An Jin Ryu Mei”. As a result of this experience he developed the ‘Usui Reiki Ryoho’: the ‘Usui Reiki Treatment Method’.
In Reiki, energy is passed to those being treated though the laying on of hands.
The Japanese word Reiki consists of two Kanji (characters), REI and KI and is often translated as universal life energy. This means energy in the sense of energy from the “heavens”, the universe or “Spiritual energy”. Usui discovered that man has the possibility to connect with and receive this positive energy. During a Reiki seminar you learn the techniques involved. You can then treat yourself and others with Reiki.
A Reiki treatment provides relaxation for both body and mind. The treatment improves our natural resistance to negative influences such as stress. Reiki is able to achieve this because it has a cleansing effect for the physical and spiritual. Today throughout the world there is a growing recognition that Reiki is a form of alternative healing to be reckoned with!
A Reiki treatment session takes between 45 and 90 minutes. During this time the person receiving Reiki lies fully clothed on a treatment table, whilst the Reiki Practitioner places his hands over different areas of the body such as the head, stomach, heart, solar plexus, knees and so on, until the treatment session is complete.
